Available from April 2nd - 15th

What is this? The coronavirus pandemic challenges interpreters to transmit specialized information accurately, as well as to adapt practice to the re-organized and stressed healthcare system.

On this webinar, you will learn both how to interpret for patient encounters about COVID-19 and how to keep yourself safe while doing so.

Part 1 will address the biology, transmission, and treatment of the coronavirus and the terms needed to build an interpreter glossary on the topic. We’ll answer questions like:

  • What is the difference between screening and testing?
  • What is the difference between testing for viral RNA and testing for antibodies?
  • What is viral shedding?
  • What is a route of transmission?
  • What is immunity?

Part 2 will focus on how to adapt to interpreting during the pandemic. We’ll talk about

  • Switching to remote modalities.
  • How to stay safe onsite assignments.
  • The value of different sorts of masks.
  • What hand hygiene to use in what setting.
  • How to react to the anxiety of staff, providers, patients, family members, and one's own interpreter scheduler
  • How to decide which assignments to take.
Linda Golley has a background in direct patient care as well as in managing and training healthcare interpreters.
