WEBSHOP: Note-Taking Practice Strategies Presented by Yuliya Speroff and Lindsay Bentsen

An Interactive Webshop

What is this about?
  • This 3-hour webshop is designed to help participants build on their note-taking skills by learning strategies, tools and techniques for deliberate note-taking practice. During this interactive webshop, the trainers will take the participants through all the steps of practicing their note-taking skills - from setting goals and selecting appropriate practice materials to deciding which aspect to focus on. The participants will also learn practical tips for successful and productive practice sessions.

Learning objectives:

  • To set note-taking practice goals and areas for improvement
  • To learn to select appropriate practice materials
  • To learn the strategies and tools for deliberate note-taking practice
  • To learn how to practice each aspect of note taking and how to integrate skills
  • To discuss challenges common to note-taking and ways of overcoming them

In-class activities:

  • Lecture using PowerPoint Slides
  • Whole class discussion
  • Self-directed activities (setting goals and material search)
  • Skill-building activities in breakout rooms
  • Structured feedback (Instructor to trainee, peer to peer, self-evaluation)

What is a “webshop”?
A webshop is just like an interactive onsite class, but held online through Zoom.
During a webshop, you can ask questions and engage in discussion. You may be divided into “break-out” rooms where you’ll be working with other participants on exercises or on practicing a skill. There may be quizzes and polls. So, while there may be some PowerPoint and lecture, this is not like your typical webinar. Your full attention and participation is expected; that’s what makes it fun!
