Are you CAT-tool curious? Many translators and translation companies use a Computer-Assisted Translation tool to make their translation work more efficient and consistent. The often steep learning curve and sheer intimidation factor of such complex and unfamiliar programs likely prevents many translators from even trying, let alone learning, a CAT tool.
This workshop will ease translators into the CAT arena with Wordfast Pro, one of the few major tools on the market that runs natively on PC and Mac (many others require Mac users to run a copy of Windows to use them). Attendees will learn essential concepts applicable to most other CAT tools through hands‑on experience with Wordfast Pro. The workshop’s focus on fundamentals will help translators understand the benefit of CAT tools, how to make the best use of them, how to approach clients requesting their use, and how to make smart decisions about acquiring them. NOTIS hopes to offer trainings on other tools in the future.
The workshop will include hands-on exercises and an informational PowerPoint, which will be available to attendees afterwards.
Important: Attendees must install the latest Wordfast Pro from https://wordfast.com/downloadpage on their PC or Mac before the session and make sure it functions correctly. Installation instructions can be found at https://www.wordfast.net/wiki/How_to_install_Wordfast_Pro. This unlicensed demo version is sufficient for the workshop.
Translators in all languages and stages in their careers who are comfortable with computer basics are welcome to attend. No prior CAT experience is necessary.
