This training is for interpreters of all levels of experience, to learn how to self-assess their own skills. The method involves recording oneself and analyzing the most commonly occurring error types, tracking one’s error types, and then according to trends in the tracking data, choosing the appropriate drills and practice material to "move the needle" in the direction of improvement.
This workshop is for both novice and experienced interpreters, and everyone in between, to learn how to: Design skills and drills practice to improve their individual performance.

An Interactive Webshop
A webshop is just like an interactive onsite class, but held online through Zoom.
During a webshop, you can ask questions and engage in discussion. You may be divided into “break-out” rooms where you’ll be working with other participants on exercises or on practicing a skill. There may be quizzes and polls. So, while there may be some PowerPoint and lecture, this is not like your typical webinar. Your full attention and participation is expected; that’s what makes it fun!

Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who arrive on time and stay for the entire workshop. Please allow yourself enough time to log on and sign in before the webshop begins. While latecomers are welcome to stay for the educational value of the webshop, DSHS will not provide CE credit if you arrive late, for any reason.

is a Certified Medical Interpreter and Trainer of Trainers, with M.A.s from Brown University in Bilingual Education, and Portuguese & Brazilian Studies. Beginning as a Spanish/Portuguese medical interpreter at Rhode Island Hospital, then becoming Trainer & Supervisor for Harborview Medical Center’s Department of Interpreter Services in Seattle, followed by National Director of Interpreter Quality for In Demand, and currently Director of Lobo Language Access in Tacoma Washington, Eliana provides consultation on language access plans, interpreter training curricula, and diversity & inclusion issues. Eliana is a regular speaker at healthcare interpreter conferences, presenter/co- host for NCIHC’s “Home for Trainers” webinar series, and CCHI Commissioner.
: The workshop is geared towards working interpreters in all fields (court, healthcare, community and educational). There will be several sample participatory and interactive exercises recommended for improving performance for attendees to sample, covering these three areas:
Interpreters will learn how to document and track their progress by learning how to identify errors, measure progress, assess improvement and track individual aspects of performance.
Attendees will be shown how to set-up an individualized metrics worksheet for tracking their individual progress and skills improvement over time. More importantly, they will learn how to interpret results so as to be able to select the most appropriate targeted drills to make the changes and improvements to specific skills they want to see.
Links to many free online training resources, practice material, phone apps, computer and technical tools will be shared.
No refunds can be given after October 19th. A $10 processing fee will apply for refunds requested before October 19th. Contact the NOTIS office manager for cancellation. Transfer of credits to other workshop is not allowed.
