The Northwest Literary Translators invite you back to Folio for our first event of 2022, a lecture and workshop on Translating Food by Thei Zervaki!

This presentation will address different types and forms of food language (recipes, cookbooks, menus, food memoirs etc.); how we approach food translation (source vs target language...); what options we have as translators; what outcomes we intend to achieve; and the role of the publisher or of the "work giver". We will also do some exercises in the class.

Please bring your food-related translation questions and we will all try to help and answer them if we can.

Thei Zervaki is a world-traveled seasoned linguist based in Seattle. She worked in private, corporate and government agencies as a linguist, language consultant, cross-cultural trainer, translator, interpreter, and translation project manager and director for over 20 years. Her areas of expertise in translation and interpreting include the European Union, food, legal, medical, subtitling, and personal development. Thei works in Greek, English, French and Italian. She is also a freelance food writer and has a food blog. Check it out here: http://wedesserts.com/

This is an in-person event. Attendees will need to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result within the previous 72 hours. Masks are required and capacity limits will be enforced.
