NOTIS’s Community Interpreters Division (CID) presents:

Interpreting for Autism Spectrum Disorder Services

Presented by Cindy Roat

What is it about?
This interactive 7-hour synchronous online webshop is designed for experienced interpreters and will prepare learners to provide interpreting services for patients with autism spectrum disorder, their families and the providers who serve them. Developed with input from national ASD experts, this webshop will cover the following:

  • An introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder, including the diagnostic process, causes and treatment options.
  • Behaviors and verbal patterns that may be present in people on the spectrum.
  • Specialized terminology in autism services commonly used in medical and educational settings.
  • Practice with vocabulary and conversion.
  • Special challenges for the interpreter.

Participants will receive:

  • A copy of the PowerPoint presentation.
  • English vocabulary exercises
  • Conversion exercises
  • A bilingual glossary and vocabulary exercises available in Arabic, Traditional Chinese/Cantonese, Spanish and Vietnamese

This workshop will not be recorded.

What is a Webshop?
A webshop is just like an interactive onsite class, but held online through Zoom.
During a webshop, you can ask questions and engage in discussion. You may be divided into “break-out” rooms where you’ll be working with other participants on exercises or on practicing a skill. There may be quizzes and polls. So, while there may be some PowerPoint and lecture, this is not like your typical webinar. Your full attention and participation is expected; that’s what makes it fun!

Two sessions starting at different times:
Saturday, May 11th, from 9 am to 12:30 pm, and Saturday, May 18th, from 12 pm to 3:30 pm, 2024. You will need to attend both sessions to receive continuing education credits.

Three days in advance, and again the day before the event, you will receive reminder emails with log-on instructions. Email or Text/Call 425-247-0684 (voice message only) if you don't receive a reminder. Skype Name: live:notisnet Via the web

$105 NOTIS members, $145 non-members (Click to Join NOTIS)

Via the web (before midnight on May 8th). After registering, you will receive an email confirmation; if you do not receive a confirmation, your registration did not go through.
Space is limited to the first 30 registrants.
