Are you a practicing or aspiring interpreter or translator who is curious about the academic side of translation and interpreting and ready to learn more? Are you skeptical about the relevance of theory and research to your everyday work? Or just looking for a stimulating way to earn CEUs?
Regardless of your answer, this workshop is the place for you! Join us for a lively and interactive session in which we introduce you to Translation and Interpreting Studies, explore how knowledge of theory and research can support and improve your professional practice, and share resources to help you find and make use of scholarly publications.
Objectives:
After this workshop participants will be able to…
- discuss translation and interpreting as objects of scholarly inquiry
- explain ways in which engaging with research and theory can inform professional practice
- identify resources and information they can use in accessing and engaging with research and theory

When: Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. PST

Where:
Zoom invitations and information on how to join the workshop will be included in the registration confirmation and event reminders. Event reminders will be sent twice: one three days before the workshop, and the second the day prior to the workshop.
Missed the Live Session? This workshop will be recorded, and the recording will be available to all registered participants who missed the live session for one month after the workshop date.

Rachel E. Herring holds an M.A. in Translation and Interpreting (English/Spanish) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, a Masters of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training from the University of Geneva, and a PhD in Interpreting from the University of Geneva. She was Faculty and Program Director of the Translation and Interpreting Program at Century College and a per diem staff interpreter at Children's Minnesota until summer, 2025, when she transitioned into the role of Interim Dean of Liberal Arts at Century College. She has presented nationally and internationally on aspects of interpreting and interpreter training and is a longtime member of the NCIHC’s Home for Trainers Webinar Workgroup. Bluesky: @reherring
