Introduction to Medical Insurance, Billing, and Medical Debt for Interpreters 

Note to registrants: A link to the webinar will be provided on 5/23.

This 90 minute webinar will provide an overview of different types of medical insurance and payment coverage, terminology resources, and an understanding of concepts related to billing and medical debt. At the end of the webinar, attendees will be directed to a short on-line quiz that they will complete in order to obtain their certificate of attendance.

The Community Interpreters Division of NOTIS is excited to offer this training in webinar format. Once registered, attendees will receive the web address. They can participate with the webinar live and ask questions through the GoToWebinar chat feature. A recording of this webinar will be made available for 30 days after the training. Only attendees who register by the deadline, watch the webinar, and complete the quiz will receive a certificate of attendance (and corresponding continuing education units).

Yvonne Simpson is the Medical Interpreter Supervisor at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She holds a Master of Arts in Spanish (Linguistics) and has significant experience in interpreting, translating, teaching and training. Yvonne is a DSHS Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter and is a Certified Medical Interpreter through the National Board.

Ramon Bueno is a Spanish interpreter, translator, interpreter trainer, pharmacy tech and BLS CPR instructor. He is a DSHS certified (English >Spanish) medical and social interpreter. He has worked in the medical field for the past eighteen years in different roles ranging from:  Hospital inpatient and outpatient interpreting, Pharmacy tech third party online billing, dental office billing, and pre authorization referral coordinator, just to mention a few. He currently serves as a Spanish Interpreter at Harborview Medical Center (level one trauma center for the northwest region) on First Hill in Seattle, Washington.      

When?  Two options:

  • Participate in the webinar live on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., and have access to the recording through June 23.
  • Or, watch a recording of the webinar any time between May 23 and June 23, 2018.

Refunds?  We regret that no refunds can be given after May 18th. A $10 processing fee will apply for refunds requested before May 18th.

Webinar?  This training is provided via webinar on the GoToWebinar platform. A web address will be given upon registration. Attendees will need access to a computer with internet and speakers to listen to the presentation. Towards the end of the webinar, attendees will be provided with the web address for the workshop quiz. Attendees must complete the quiz in order to receive credit for this workshop.

CE credits? Two (2) continuing education credits are approved from the ATA, from the CCHI, from the Washington State DSHS
One and a half continuing education credits are approved for this workshop from the Administrator of the Courts.

Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who watch the entire webinar and complete the quiz.

*You can watch or re-watch the webinar as many times as you like within the viewing period. All certificates of attendance will be dated May 23rd, 2018, and will be issued within five business days after you have viewed the webinar.
